Rooted
platonic shifts
on my Richter scale-
holding on
Periodically, I stumble upon a relic from the past. One that is still situated in some far corner of my mind. A physical benchmark that has neither evolved nor eroded. One that remains steadfast, holding its ground in spite of the many changes surrounding it. Left exactly where it placed its foothold many moons ago. And I celebrate, sipping the sweet taste of nostalgia.
These brushes with yesterday's dust replenish me. They have no emotional significance in and of themselves. They can be as mundane as an old, moss-covered stone wall that survived the destruction of the home it shored up. Or a light tower poised on the highest peak of a hill that continues to stand guard over the forlorn, empty lot where my grade-school once stood.
wrapped in a blanket
of familiarity
serenity sighs
