Words to a troubadour's love song
The Promise by Cass Carlton
Love Poem Poetry Contest contest entry

A promised gift I await from you.
You vowed 'twould give me pleasure
Not of trinkets bright and new
For these are no man's treasure.

No man's treasure.

You promised me a loving heart
And gentle ways and tender
And I have promised ne'er to part
My hand , my life surrender

My life surrender.

Let us pledge forever more
In woodland bower shady
I thy knight , thy troubadour
And thou my faithful lady

Thou my faithful lady.

Author Notes
These are the words to a ballad sung by one of my medieval heroes to his lady before leaving her to go far away. He is lost for many years , but returns to retrieve her from the cloister. She still loves him and they are married under the trees where they said Goodbye so many years ago.
