Memorial Day

Memorial Day we honor, those who fought and lost their lives in war
Etched in our hearts the sacrifice made of those who died afar
Many lives were lost; men and women fought for one and all
Obeying orders; maintaining unity dying for a cause
Ramification that war brings is shown in final goodbyes
Intolerable hurt, leaving loved ones with tears in their eyes
Acknowledgment we must give to families; for the sacrifices made
Let's pay particular honor to Vietnam heroes, a salute never conveyed
Deployed to carry out duties given by the Commander in Chief
Admiration extended to one and all for their service and loyalty
Yesterday's heroes who freely gave their lives, will never be forgotten

Author Notes
Thanks to Google image for artwork. My husband is a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran who is total disabled. I witnessed him crying after watching a ceremony on TV honoring our fallen soliders. The tears as they were flowing touched my heart and inspired me to write this tribute. Thanks to all the men and women who have given their lives and to those who are serving protecting our freedom.
