My parents spent life fighting,
when I was just a boy;
I spent my time in seeking-
some hope from other's joy,
My dad took time for sleeping,
he worked the red-eye shift;
my mum was always angry,
so troubles were my drift.
I was a gifted sportsman-
and always in the game,
parents watching, fathers cheering,
but my dad never came.
Those days are long behind me,
but no regrets I hold,
God gave me many mentors
their teaching was my gold.
In time God brought me Jesus,
my greatest friend and Lord,
my teacher and companion,
in Him my thanks are stored.
