Today you smiled and held my hand -
these days are gold.
Beside the sea, on silken sand
we slowly strolled.
The waves, sun-speckled, danced to shore;
oh, who could ever wish for more?
Such simple joys are wealth untold.
These days are gold.
And now - it's hard to understand -
as night grows cold,
you wander in some foreign land,
you rave and scold.
Come back, my love, don't leave me here!
Upon my cheek a lonely tear
belies the words I must uphold,
'These days are gold.'
