If these old walls could talk
The House by Janet Foor

A stately house stood all alone
upon a quiet hill
a welcome mat beside the door
and shutters at each sill.

The golden sun arose each morn
and warmed the rooms with light
an evening star glowed in the sky
as moon beams filled the night.

A mother set a daily feast
with love for every plate
warm biscuits and blueberry pie
no one was ever late.

The tattered house abandoned now
no need for keys or lock
but there are stories to be told
if these old walls could talk.

A wind swept 'round the rafters bare
and whispered in my ear
it's time to leave this weary house
your home's no longer here.

Author Notes
This picture reminded me of my grandma's house. It brought back many happy memories. But then -- I was reminded of my niece who is dying of cancer and may not make it until Christmas and the poem took a turn.
