"Two, four, six," oh wow, look!
That looks like a really cool book,
I'll ask my mummy, oh, no, wait ...
What comes next? That's right it's "Eight."
That was a close one,
nearly in trouble again
and that's never fun.
Where was I? oh, um ... "Ten?"
Teacher's frowning, oh no, what now?
Did I mess up again somehow?
I'm pretty sure I said it right
just like I practiced lots last night.
I hate it when I do things wrong
and people frown or laugh at me.
I really don't mean to take so long.
I'm trying hard. Why can't they see?

Writing Prompt |
October is ADHD awareness month, so let's help spread awareness through poetry!!
Write a poem of any style that helps others understand more about the challenges and/or benefits of having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) |
Author Notes
aabb, abab, aabb, abab
In my accent "again" and "ten" do rhyme, I realise they might not if "again" is said correctly but ... they do for me :)
The chaotic and inconstant rhythm in the first half is symbollic of how the mind of someone with ADHD works, thoughts don't always flow smoothly.
