My childhood fun
Summer Days of Long Ago by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

When we went out with Grandmamma,
We'd drag along our dear Grandpa.
He always did such funny things
And pushed us high upon the swings.

With bread that Ma would throw away,
We'd feed the ducks then watch them play.
We'd buy some nuts then hope there'd be
Enough left for the squirrels' tea!

We'd play a game of catch the ball,
And dear Grandpa would drop them all.
Then Grandmamma would laugh out loud,
And very soon attract a crowd.

On Sunday mornings, after church,
We'd go back home and have to search
For sweeties that our Grandmamma
Had hid from us and dear Grandpa.

When they were found, our Ma would say,
"They're not for now, put them away."
Our dear Grandpa would nod his head,
Then with a wink he always said,

"Come on you two, let's have them now."
But managed to hide his somehow!
Then we would laugh, and Ma would know,
She'd stay right there and would not go.

Then dear Grandpa would hand his in,
And Ma would sigh and rub her chin.
We'd have to wait till after three,
Two hours before we had our tea.

Throughout those days of long ago,
When we were young and life was slow
We did such things and had such fun,
And life was good for everyone.
