Are Writer's Dismissive (239 words) by dejohnsrld (Debbie) |
I had an interesting discussion this afternoon about whether writers are dismissive of the work of other writers. What I have found is that writers and poets are more accepting than the rest of the world who think putting letters on a page is writing--so I guess a grocery list, note to your family that you will be late, completing a questionnaire etc is writing. Just because you can physically put words on a page with ink, or keyboard an email means literacy, not creativity which is true writing. Non-writers are very dismissive of those who spend their days doing true writing. I have felt insulted for being a poet/writer by several non-writing friends and acquaintances to the point I often don't even mention to non-writers that I am having something published, received an award etc. I have felt that writers are much kinder than non-writers on the subject.
