Our Fortress Love by kiwisteveh
Sonnet Poetry Contest contest entry

Fear not the rattling rain, o gentle heart,
Nor shudder at the gale that shakes the eaves;
No storm can overthrow or tear apart
Our fortress love. Who questions that, deceives.
For did we not build stone on stone to last
Against temptation's tempest? Set in place
Foundations to withstand the jealous blast?
A drawbridge raised in fickle fortune's face?
Though raging winds may strain the oaken beams
And granite blocks are weathered by the tears
Of countless winters, fortified by dreams,
Our stronghold still defies besieging years.
Fear not, I say, but come, I'll hold you tight;
Secure in love, we'll brave the wildest night.
