Liquid Revenge by Spiritual Echo
|
Rain slaps the steel-meshed window. Liquid lightning, angry gods, rumbling fury explodes from the sky. Nine hundred steps to freedom--the prison gates. Just forty-two remain before I reach eternity.
A final day, a last meal--I break the rules, smoking in my cell. Nobody stops me--no more punishment--nothing left to lose. Clock watchers, counters, note-takers, a lone priest--they stand together, cataloguing the remaining minutes. "Was it worth it?" an angry witness screams. The second hand sweeps across the clock. My time is done. Revenge sears my veins. The fatal injection fogs my memory. "I don't remember."
