Fire Flies   a poem by Dean Kuch   Desert darkness ensues, another dies, politicians' jokes amuse, the fire flies.   Cameras at the ready. HumVees move turret gunner stands steady, the fire flies.   Nineteen years young oh,the horror he's seen, have only begun, the fire flies.   Roadside erupts, blood and bone fuse red war changes, corrupts the fire flies.   Little boy runs, laughing, daddy's far, far away. Stares in awe as he's catching the fire flies...     Recognized Author Notes In honor of all of the brave men and women who have fought and died in their service of this country. Dedicated too, to all of the family and friends they have left behind. God bless them, each and everyone. The horrors of war. Thankfully, for the most part, our children here in the US are spared from such atrocities. Sadly, however, that isn't the case in the rest of the world.
