When Mama's tucked me into bed,
do stars still shine?
Do fairies hover overhead
with one assigned
to make the night, so dark and deep,
a place where I can fall asleep
and feel her loving arms 'round mine
as stars still shine?
When Mama pats my nodding head,
is that a sign
the night's a blanket gently spread
in love's design?
Will lullabies still reach my ear
to let me know my mama's near?
As I give in to sleepy time,
do stars still shine?

Author Notes
Warm thanks to my daughter Miranda for this photo of her baby boy Sawyer, and for being the best mom ever.
The octogram is a poem of 16 lines divided into two octets.
All lines are written in strict iambic meter with a syllable count of 8/4/8/4/8/8/8/4. The rhyme scheme is aBabccbB ababddbB. The upper case letters indicate the refrain line.
I do realize I have modified one word in the second of the three repeating lines. Many thanks to Sally Yocom, fellow Fanstorian, who is the creator of this wonderful poetic form.
