I, Who Haven't Learned to Fly

I, who haven't learned to fly,
have learned instead to be
content with my existence
as earthbound entity,
for nowhere in the heavens
do dandelions grow,
nor do the daffodillies
put on their yearly show.
I may not be companion
to whippoorwill or jay,
but oh such consolation
I find in Earth's display.

Author Notes
Warm thanks to Gutter Flower for this lovely photo of a dandelion.
daffodilly is a variant of daffodil that has been used in poetry for centuries by such greats as Spenser and Tennyson.
