O, wondrous beast of motley shapes,
Of grinning mouth and lolling tongue,
Your epic journeys, jaunts and japes
Form tales we've told and songs we've sung.
Your loyal heart and willing frame
Attract the title, 'Man's Best Friend';
You judge us not, you join our game,
Our wounds you lick, our hearts you mend.
'Cross frozen wastes you haul our sleds
You toil long hours in fields and farms;
You guard our houses, warm our beds
And serve as useful fire alarms.
When glowing eyes grow dim and fade,
No more you bound along the ridge,
Deep sorrow's by the thought allayed,
We'll meet once more at Rainbow Bridge.

Author Notes
The picture is of Scooter, just one of our wondrous beasts, sharing a rather pensive moment with his teddy. More frequently he would be tearing it apart!
Rainbow bridge is where animals and their owners are reunited after death.
