Lovers Leap
On misty nights you'll see her there
a ghost in silent reverie,
she's waiting for her sailor who's
forever gone, he's lost at sea.
She watches from her lofty perch,
A steadfast vigil she does keep.
A ghostly vision in the mist
upon the rock called "Lover's Leap"
He left her with a tear-stained face,
alone and with a love that burned.
He promised her a wedding ring
the very day that he returned.
So, high above the jagged rocks,
she calmly watches all the ships.
She's waiting in the ocean spray,
with tears and sea salt on her lips.
She bottled up a note at last
and tossed it in the angry sea,
it said "A baby's on the way,
I need you, please return to me."
While watching for his whaler there,
the one he called the Laura Lee,
she learned it wasn't coming back
and so she jumped into the sea.
She couldn't face what was to be
and so she jumped into the sea.
