Spider Silk by Cindy Warren

Clever little spider,
Such a web she weaves,
Tired of her usual fare,
Today her food she leaves.
This day she'll spin a new web,
The biggest that she can,
Greedy little spider,
She's going to catch a man.
She weaves the strands together,
Makes them the biggest and the best;
A masterpiece she creates
Before she stops to rest.
Stronger than the strongest steel
Is this spider's deadly thread,
Sticky strands to hold her man
Until he's dead.
She selects her victim skillfully,
Picks the juiciest of the lot;
Cautiously she maneuvers her web
Until he's caught.
She takes her time and sucks him dry
Just like he was a fly;
When all is gone except a husk
She says goodbye.
Then our lovely little spider
Discards the useless mess
And the black widow's next meal
Is anybody's guess.
