"A deal with the Devil the Haitians did make,
so God caused their ground to shudder and shake" --
have you ever heard such idiocy,
that children are orphaned by God's decree?
The first amendment gives Robertson right
to say what he will about people's plight,
but I say to him, hide your face in shame,
for you have dishonored God's Holy name.
It's high time, Pat, for you to retire --
you don't preach God's love, you do not inspire.
Your filthy lies just disseminate hate,
and people of faith will give them no weight.
The homeless of Haiti this day have prayed --
may help from our shores bring them succor and aid.
May millions who are to compassion spurred
put silence to Robertson's hateful words.

Author Notes
Pat Robertson is a famous American televangelist, host of the widely syndicated 700 Club. The day following the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, he suggested that the years of poverty this country has suffered plus the earthquake, are the result of a deal the Haitians made with the devil in order to get rid of the French who once ruled them. When Katrina destroyed so much of New Orleans, there were some who suggested that horror was the result of God's wrath against the sinfulness of this city. And now this. As a person of faith, I am so offended. The God of love I worship and draw my strength from is not a God who slaughters people wholesale to make some point. I can't stop hateful people from claiming to speak for God, but I can sure fight back.
