When Life Continues by adewpearl

Above
grief's wretched cries
with frequency will float
soft sounds of promise found in life's
grace notes.

Author Notes
The cinquain is a five line poem with syllable count of 2/4/6/8/2. There is usually a turn in the fourth or fifth line, and the title is often considered a significant sixth line. While the turn is more often a downward turn in the classical style of the cinquain's inventor, Adelaide Crapsey, in this poem I've chosen to make it an upward turn.

Grace notes in music are notated by small notes on the page and are usually ornamental notes played between the major notes and not lasting as long as the major notes. They add color to the music with a light touch. Because of this, the phrase has taken on metaphorical meaning to depict small things in life that are secondary yet having a purpose.
