A tide pool's treasures give a glimpse
of life's pursuit beneath the sea -
sea stars and spiny urchins vie
for beauty of their symmetry.
As hermit crabs crawl through green kelp,
ornately-hued anemone
pursue their prey in guise of flow'rs,
maintaining their hegemony.
While color pops in brilliant bursts,
a constant struggle to survive
continues with each current's change,
as life adjusts if it's to thrive.
The secret kept in tidal pools
among bright coloration's bloom
is that its vivid creatures must
adapt or meet their certain doom.

Author Notes
All the creatures in this poem are those that live in tidal pools, a place not meant to be home for the fragile. Because of huge changes in temperature and salination that come with the tide's going in and out, and because low tide exposes this sea life to all sorts of dangers, only the most hardy dare to call the tidal pool their home. Nothing is more beautiful to photograph as a tidal pool will be filled with oranges, purples, pinks, blues and neon greens and sea life shaped like stars and flowers, but these creatures do far more than pose for photographs in their daily struggle to survive.
