When to Say No

I say no to cloud cover days that dampen spirits and send hearts to despair.

I say no to words that flatter with insults, and dredge up broken pieces that once were in repair.

I say no to defilers’ disrespectful advances, impel by their lust others’ virtues they wrest.

I say no to pilferers of adolescents, whether dear or deviant, whom juvenescence they theft.

I say no to unthoughtful suggestions, though you aim to make me repent.

Honestly, did I not say no despite your pretense?

When I learn to say no, I find I say yes to myself.

We should learn to say no when it’s best for our health.
