The Corner of Church and Main by Jessica Wheeler
Rhyming Love Poem writing prompt entry

December's breath was cold that night
as the snow fell in winter's refrain
He stood beneath the streetlamp's light
on the corner of Church and Main

She hurried past, caught in her haste
when her footing, she couldn't maintain
A twist of fate, a moment's grace
on the corner of Church and Main

She stumbled, and she cursed her feet
but the flakes on her skin held no pain
quite like his smile, there in the street
on the corner of Church and Main

His laughter echoed through the air
as she sat in the silver terrain
His gaze held hers, a longing stare
on the corner of Church and Main

He rushed to her and reached his hand
pulled her up, and he asked for her name
Her knees went weak; he helped her stand
on the corner of Church and Main

In whispered tones, their stories told
as the time slipped away, unconstrained
Through words, they danced there in the cold
on the corner of Church and Main

Just like the snow, they quickly fell
but reality hit like a train
They knew the day would break the spell
on the corner of Church and Main

With saddened smiles, they parted ways
in a promise they couldn't sustain
He watched her fade in snowy haze
on the corner of Church and Main

That night weighed heavy on her heart
for a love that she couldn't regain
And he would wait, each winter's start
on the corner of Church and Main

Yet, through the years, a changing tide
brought them back to the place love remained
with fate and timing on their side
on the corner of Church and Main

The snow fell soft that winter night
as she walked up to him once again
beneath the very same streetlight
on the corner of Church and Main
