The golden hair,
the lovely smile,
belie the fact that she’s in pain.

Untouched by the world,
fresh, unspoiled,
blooming like a delicate
rose among the thorns.
A young sparrow
starting to fly,
looking up at her nest
from down on the ground
waiting for help.

learning to walk,
sure of the help her parents offer,
