Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A sonnet in mainly iambic tetrameter

A Double Rainbow in New York

The brownstone buildings, tall, austere,
match morbid skies that scowl and lour.
Such days as this are drab and drear,
for this is not a passing shower.

When maudlin thoughts I cannot quell,
a double rainbow can inspire
such joy and hope that will dispel
all gloom, and set my heart on fire.

While nature’s second bow is pale,
like words within a palimpsest,
a human child can blaze a trail,
when of maternal love possessed.

Her footsteps are the pot of gold
on which her mother's love is sold.
