Reflections of Truth

by Connie C

Oh, mirror, mirror on the wall
why can't you be more kind to me?
Remember when you were my friend?
At least that's how it used to be.

When I step up to you these days,
I can't believe what I now see,
someone whose age has crept right up.
This image surely can't be me!

My profile now has changed somehow.
It seems I've grown an extra chin.
And when I move my arm about,
there's all this creepy, crepey skin.

I notice that the color gray
has worked its way into my hair.
And where my chin was once quite smooth,
I'm finding little hairs grow there.

Applying liner to my eyes
no longer works the way it did.
Eye makeup I will now give up
as I endure my droopy lid.

I guess it's time to realize
that youthful look I'll not get back
as you, my friend, remind me that
the aging process is on track.

Just a few observations I'm beginning to make when I look into the mirror these days.
