A Rondeau

When Inspiration Strikes

by tfawcus

When inspiration strikes, full steam ahead!
Seize brushes with both hands, before it's fled.
Spread out the paper's blank - no time to lose -
and plunge into the yellows, reds and blues.
Speed's of the essence, lest you lose the thread.

Unleash your latent mind, from A to Zed,
ignite the inner spark before it's dead,
it's only fools who stop to take a snooze
                                        when inspiration strikes!

It pays you to be quick, not filled with dread.
Embrace your muse with love if you’d be wed;
make her an offering she can’t refuse.
The moment’s now, and only you can choose
how you go down the path on which you’re led
                                        when inspiration strikes!

A rondeau is composed of fifteen lines, eight to ten syllables each, divided stanzaically into a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet. The rentrement consists of the first few words or the entire first line of the first stanza, and it recurs as the last line of both the second and third stanzas. Two rhymes guide the music of the rondeau, whose rhyme scheme is as follows (R representing the refrain): aabba aabR aabbaR.
