Multiple Tetractys: With Love and Remembrance

Marsh Marigold Magic

by Mrs. KT

<<<~~~>>>

Far
away

from those walls
she would travel.
When she did, she was no longer crippled
or held hostage to fading memories
or night shadows.
She was whole:
Racing
in

search
of spring’s
sweet bounty:
marsh marigolds.
Her auburn hair flowing in the sunshine
as she flies down the path to McNeil's Creek.
She has no cares,
no knowledge
that in
springs
to

come, she
will only
remember these
days in moments that break through the darkness
when light fades from the room, and she is young
once again if
only in
l
onged for
dreams.

~~~>~~~
I
too, search
ev'ry
spring
for these precious
heralds of hopeful renewal and joy.
I spy their beauty from well-worn pathways.
Their presence fills
me with peace.
I smile
a
s
I
inhale
their beauty
and deep wonder.
For in my mind's eye, I see my mother
as she once was, racing to McNeil's Creek.
Yellow sunshine.
Memories.
Laughter.
Joy.
I
feel her
presence and
renewing grace,
for even death has no hold over dreams...
Poem of the Month contest entry
Recognized
Today, February 27th, would have been my mother's ninety-fifth birthday. My mother passed away in 2007 after a seven year battle with Parkinson's disease, osteoarthritis, and dementia. A master floral designer for over forty years, marsh marigolds were some of her favorite springtime flowers. When she was a young girl, she would, indeed, run to the creek to find these vibrant yellow harbingers of spring. And she was always pointing them out to me as we made our way along the countryside roads. Dreams were her only escape during her long illness...She is never more than a thought away. diane kenel-truelove
Multiple Tetractys: Five-lined verse. Succeeding verses reverse syllable count. Syllable count: 1,2,3,4,10,10,4,3,2,1 etc...
Please note: Readers may question a change in verb tense from past to present in the first part of my poem. This is intentional. My mother would often share her dreams with me, and when she did so, she always told them in present tense. Thus, in my poem, when she relays her dream, she is running and she is racing, etc... Thank you!
