Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
The power of dreams to ignite poetry

The Light Within

In the depths of the night the dreamer wakes
to himself, the co-creator,
whose light sears from the soul
to fire the clay,
to make strong the container
that holds the honeyed words of the gods,
a shared libation,
a draught to fan the flames,
disruptively erupting
with lava flow
to bury the artefacts of Pompeii,
the pompous artifices of Mammon,
and the household gods
of those blinded,
both by and from
the light that shines from within.
Dwell not upon it, dreamer,
lest your sight becomes shrivelled
in fear of its power,
but shield it boldly
to show you the way.
