Turkey Meat

by Dolly'sPoems

Turkey meat

The turkey heard a rumour,
a date with fate was near;
He should of planned it sooner,
his heart was filled with fear.

His profile had been low key,
friendly was the cheer,
but he'd heard talk of a bird,
that may soon disappear.

Just lately food was plenty,
he walked with stiffened gait;
His legs could hardly carry,
the extra pounds of weight.

His hopes of a retirement,
to graze forever free,
were dashed by talk of Christmas,
when he'd no longer be.

One bright starry moonlit night,
when all had gone to sleep,
the turkey ran for safety,
outside the farmers keep.

Tomorrow I will be free,
the new year will be fun;
I'll not host the roast and be
turkey meat well done.
