Beautiful Funchal

by Dolly'sPoems

(21st December 2017)

Stars of white in trees lit bright,
sprinkling fairy dust;
A lane of coloured candy cane,
to see this scene, a must.
A toenail moon joined in the swoon,
in perfect moving motion;
A fairytale of twinkling hail,
reflecting on the ocean.

In spring she sings, in fall her call
beckons me to come,
she will shower with orchid flower,
in December, lights are fun.
The toy town magic is ecstatic,
a ride in wonderland;
Dreams are vivid moonbeams
held by a silvery strand.

Churchill stayed to paint her bays,
her hold on him too much;
She stole his heart right from the start,
he longed for her tender touch.
Mosaic home of pure moonstone,
Madeira's streets are old;
The patterned maps are clever traps,
that lead you to her gold.

Her kiss is magical and tranquil,
her perfumed air in tune,
Stay a while, breathe in her style,
she captivates the moon.
And when you wave goodbye, you sigh,
entering the dark,
Inside your soul she makes you whole,
her seed has left its spark.

I am at presently sailing to Cadiz for Christmas Day and stopped overnight in Funchal, Madeira, I have been many times before, but she never fails to delight me.

In Portugal they lay white and grey small paving stones in patterns all over like artistic carpet, you always know when you are Portugal because of this unique paving. I have referred to it in my poem as moonstone.
