An Equation of One Self Over Another

Are you enamored of days gone by
bothered and bewildered by these times?

Can you not see the folly of the past?

damnation is cast in shadows
ever shimmering in the haze of
               forgotten pain and shame

goodness knows some reckoning
      had to be derived
it always comes along
joining the parade as it were

knowledge though can be skewed
   learning can be forgotten
   meaning can be perverted

new ideas may change
   old thinking in ways never
       pondered before

questions arise

reason finds a new twist

solemn oaths
       turn into nursery rhymes

undertones of freedom lost shout

 "VICTORY" in vain

when slavery has returned
X becomes your signature

you ... never were

zero is your sum
