A Poem of Goodbye

For All Time

by Sharon Meda

I straighten your pink dress,
your favorite, one last time.
I brush your golden hair,
my favorite, one last time.

Standing proud at your side
to greet the line of mourners,
I smile a frozen smile,
at the long line of mourners.

"Only five years", murmured,
and I smile a frozen smile.
They gently squeeze my hand,
still I smile the frozen smile.

I loath to leave your side,
I will fear to be alone.
Living with memories,
to be feared when I'm alone.

And now, it is goodbye,
my precious one, one last time.
Nevermore you and I,
my heart broken for all time.
