Uncle Joe, R.I.P.

by michaelcahill

We've all seen the photograph
a man seated
just before the end
an end coming
he unaware

the image became viral
and iconic

victims of terror
the moment before
nations trying to make sense

final thoughts
known to the elements
and to him

and the other man
a stranger to us
he pondered something too
something deep
or supercilious perhaps

We know Joe
was a darling child
with unlimited potential
as so many children are

he grew to be kind
and thoughtful
he had some success
he had some failure

tragedy struck
moments after that
final image

but for those of us
who knew Joe

we can tell you

he was more
than
what you see

in a snapshot
