The victorious speaks on war.

To The Victor Belongs The Spoils

by poetwatch

I wander the world on weathered feet
In the fertile jungles and arid sand,
Snaring souls with my stunning smile
And leaving those that still have breath.
In every war I am victorious,
Yet, saddened by the fate of mortal man.
I ruled since time began
Over warriors and lily liver weaklings.
I am the undying one.
I was there when cave dwellers killed
Their brothers in a war for dominance
And sailed the seas with the Vikings
In their wars and killing spree.
I was proud of the Spartans as they died,
For warriors are always welcomed in my house.
I walked on the sparkling skulls of the spiritless
As Mongols ravaged a race into ruin.
I did not nod on Napoleon at Waterloo,
But Wellington propelled many souls to me.
I've seen many wars and many men die.
Yet, when brother fought against brother
And father against son... I cried.
Dry tears fell upon my once heart.
As more wars were waged and newer weapons used,
Thousands among thousands tumbled in sleep.
The evil in man's heart had mastered and masked the art of war.
Now, I wait for the collapse of civilization at the crossroads.
I will send some to heaven and the rest can go to hell,
For I am Death and war is good only for me.

I wanted to use pictures from my computer, but death is not lovely to see. There will be a day when we meet this undying one. I hope it is with head held high. I also hope that when we leave this life we leave a memory of ourselves in the love we all share, the written words as well as younger version of ourselves. WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?
