To Be OR Not To Be

To Be or NOT to Be?

There was movement in our Government
For the word had passed around,
That sitting Pollies had to watch their seat.
For constitution laws were passed many years ago,
To be a True Blue Aussie have to meet.
You cannot run for Government, nor take a Senate seat
If found a citizen of another land.
So many now are hunting out, their origins of birth
And finding D.N.A's another brand.

This all began now with our Bill
When Malcolm called him out,
Stand up and show your papers to us all.
But Bill just smirked with cunning smile, this time Mal you won't win
I'm verified an Aussie he did shout.
However Bill sought out revenge and raised the question up
Just who among your ranks Mal do you hide?
And with the ball now rolling down our Pollies drop like flies,
If not an Aussie you must stand aside.

Not one was safe from this turmoil
When Barnaby was rolled,
A truer Aussie one could never find.
But then by birth a Kiwi now, and so he had to go
Despite a big majority when polled.
Fiona from the Nationals next, One nations lost its Mal
And Scott could not tree hug and left the Greens.
Larissa soon she followed and Steven Parry too
Even Presidents must leave the scene.

Our sportsmen they are not exempt
When Alexander fell,
This time his serve was just a double fault.
And so the list goes on and on, they go before our eyes,
The latest Jackie Lambie's Scottish malt.
I really think this is a joke, and we must stop this rot
Like most Australians I have had enough.
Both sides play dirty Politics, but need to count the stock
It's out of hand and getting very rough.

Just do what you're elected for
That's run our Government,
For this mandate is what we all expect.
Remember what we stand up for; give everyone 'Fair Go"
And if you do you may gain some respect.
Because I'm disillusioned now, and feel I may migrate
To get away from all this bloody fuss.
If voting were tomorrow, not sure who I would pick
Perhaps I'll run; yes this I should discuss.

Hi everyone this poem was written in response to the current Australian Political climate where we are seeing many of our politicians who are serving in the Australian Senate but being forced to resign from their current post due to a question of their citizenship with many being found to be 'Dual Citizens' because their parents birth country.

This awful situation has seen many high profile senators leaving and as a consequence the balance of power is now in question and frankly most Australian are sick and tired of this whole sorry saga.

In Australia we have two major parties Liberal and Labour and some smaller Parties like National, Greens and One nation, being the main minor ones .Some senators are also Independent (not belonging to any party.)

Quite some time ago our Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball raised in the Senate a question about the leader of the Opposition Bill Shorten's heritage and questions his citizenship. Bill was able to show he was indeed an Aussie and so this whole sorry saga began with both leaders questioning the other and any senators citizenship status

In Australia according to our Constitution Laws, one is not allowed to hold a Dual Citizenship with any other country and even the Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce Leader of the National Party was forced to stand down because of his Father being born in New Zealand therefore giving Barnaby a true blue Aussie born : Dual Citizenship

The list goes on and on and has been quite a nightmare for many of our duly elected Parliamentarians

I have incorporated many names into this poem and below is a list of senators who have been found by the High Court to hold Dual citizenship and therefore have resigned The Party to whom they belong is beside their names.

Macolm Turnball: Prime Minister ( Liberal Party)
Bill Shorten ( Leader of the Opposition (Labour Party)

The follwowing are the ones gone from the Senate due to Dual Citizenship

Barnaby Joyce: Deputy Prime Minister National Party
Fiona Nash Regional Development Minister (Liberal party)
Malcolm Roberts One Nation Party
Scott Ludlam Greens Party
Larissa Walters Greens party
Stephen Parry Liberal Party Senate president
John Alexander Liberal party (formerly a well know Australian Tennis Player)
Jackie Lambie Independent Senator

And there are 9 others from various parties in Question

Also this poem is loosely based on a famous Australian poet Banjo Paterson's famous poem 'Man from Snowy River' with the unusual meter
