Thanksgiving With Ted and Fred

by Barb Hensongispsaca

"Hey, Ted," said Fred, "what's wrong with you?
Your feathers' ruffled ... you look blue."
"Oh, Fred," said Ted, "I just don't know.
My get up just won't start to go!"

"Well, I know just what we should do."
"Oh, tell me Fred, give me a clue!"
"Just follow me," yelled Fred to Ted.
"'Twill cheer you up," was all he said.

They took off flying 'round the tree,
buzz bombed the cat - laughing in glee.
Deep in the forest, they flew on
until they reached a grassy lawn.

And there spread out beyond the bend
was food Ted thought would never end.
'Twas food laid there both baked and fried,
some raw, some boiled, some skinned, some dried.

The vegetables were fixed all ways
Ted said to Fred, "What is today?"
"Thanksgiving, Ted", Fred said with glee,
and we're invited ... you and me.

The humans had cooked up a feast
to share together - man and beast.
"Oh, Fred," said Ted, "this is so grand.
Let's both fly down and lend a hand."

But Ted misjudged and landed flat
right in the soup with splash and splat.
Afraid to even look around,
Ted noticed no one made a sound.

All eyes were closed, all heads were bent,
Thanksgiving prayers were heaven sent.
Ted looked at Fred, a smile he wore,
he knew what he was thankful for.
