Poem inspired by the novel Black-eyed Suzie

Rise Above

by AshelinaB

Locked in, boxed in

Day after day,

'Til voice fades away.

Full of fears, full of tears

Helpless and afraid,

Hide from Mom’s tirade.

Taken away, taken to stay,

Growing in spurts,

But Deanna comes hurt.

Shoved forth, burst forth,

Freedom from within,

Revealing of the sin.

Screaming blame, screaming aflame

November or December,

Now she can remember.

How to deal? How to understand?

Rise above,

High above the land.

I wrote this many, many years ago for an assignment and found it again recently. Even though it is a little bit simplistic, I dunno, there's just something I like about it. :)
