I shall bring You Flowers before I Walk Away

A Visit with Daisies

by artemis53

So today you received
your gravestone,
pink marble as I had suggested,
long in the making
but quite appropriate
for a celebration of your life.

Pictures of your earthly achievements
adorn it
with words describing
the person you truly were,
explaining how you lived your life
on your own terms,
and I am grateful to have been
a part of the finite hours shared
within a span
of twenty years,
always accepting of the changes
that time most surely brings,
within the span of two decades
but was always softened

for we knew each other 'When.'

Tomorrow
I shall dress myself
once more in black
a long skirt
boots and a beaded shawl
just as you always loved

for it is time for us
to finally
say our 'goodbyes.'

I will plant Angel Trumpets
at the announcement of your trail
but daisies will I carry in my hands
laying them before you,

for as 'Our' song always did sing

"it's the last thing
that I'll ever do."

So expect me with white flowers
in the warmth of afternoon
and the tears that I'll be shedding
since you left me,
Oh,
too soon.

And a bid of a final farewell
as I drive myself away,
with top down as you once loved it,
in exploration of

a new day.

For you shall always be
at the right of my shy side
whispering...

"Live on, Diane,
my Irish Lass,
for you once filled my dreams,
and Death does not part us.
It's an illusion
of life's
schemes."

"And there shall come a time
when we once may meet again.
I've ingrained it in my heart
But, cannot say
just when

that we both shall
"be pushing up

Daisies

and once more dance,

again."

Tomorrow I shall visit a gravestone, dig into the Earth, give homage and then, walk away. All deeds have been done, crossing the 'T's and dotting the 'I's.'
