A chapter in the book World As I See It 7

The Breaking Point

by Barb Hensongispsaca

I reached my point of no return,
the love for him became a burn.
I lived like this for way too long,
I had to know I could be strong.

He'd used his fist on me too much,
I reached that point - to hate his touch.
The sights my children had to see
had told me that we had to flee.

He'd reached the time that he could kill.
His anger had destroyed our will.
I had to take his life before
he had the chance to hurt us more.

His time had come ... passed out in bed.
I looked once more on whom I'd wed
then laid a cigarette and tray
next to the man I planned to slay.

I watched the covers start to burn,
then took my kids, to not return.
So tired of burns and broken bones;
well, now he'd have to die alone.

My children now would be set free,
and not be beaten down like me.
The law would say an accident,
it's just something we can't prevent.
