A familiar sound awakened me

Heart's paradox

by An Awakened Heart

I locked the doors again today
and shut the windows tight
the wind announced my loneliness
... could I make it through the night

My covers pulled tight to my chin
my eyes closed, not a word
my thoughts wrought full of angst and hopes
I know this was absurd

For who can tell what darkness brings
imagination running wild
I heard a noise, it made me shirk
once again I was a child

As I fell, to fitfull sleep
a voice whispered in my ear
an echo of sweet memories
yet why did I feel fear

The night wore on, my sheets, cold sweat
a shiver down my spine
I dreamt she still lie next to me
my heart without a mind

'Twas when the cock, the morn did crow
a start, fell out of bed
reality came fast... had set
my soul filled full of dread

Though I had built my walls so high
I remembered what I'd ignored
it was my fault, my weakness... my sin
she still had the key to my back door

Why did I leave her a way back in...
