Fond Farewell, Dear Friend Daylight

by Reese Turner

I raise my glass in toast to you, my friend,
As you must take your leave and go.
I shall miss you, Daylight Savings Time,
I have enjoyed your visit so!

With you around, I get to be outside
With games and kids and laughter...
Or, with golf clubs and friends...
These are things in life I'm after!

And, I can garden, mow and fix
Those things needed 'round our house.
So, I'll miss you, and will welcome your
Return, saying "Nay" to they who grouse.

Your leaving marks the official end
Of our Spring and Summer's fun,
As we face the winter, dark and cold,
Play 'n picnics post-work now done...

Yet, you have faithfully returned each
Spring, just as robins and flowers do,
So, I shall be warmed from winter's chill
Just knowing I can count on you!
