The Shadows Of The Past

by Kazzawin

Just sitting, gazing endlessly
In dallied dreams of yesteryear.
You came and stole my very breath
And whispered softly in my ear.
Joy emanated from your smile
You lit the stars, you warmed the sun,
And every moment you were there
The shadows of the past were gone.

You brushed the tear upon my cheek
Stroked my fingers tenderly.
You talked of days spent in your youth
And picnic lunches by the sea.
We watched a film or was it two?
Where ladies swooned and men were feared,
And every moment you were there
Those murky shadows disappeared.

Your lips were cool against my skin
One winters eve as you retired.
That kiss devoured my very soul
You never guessed what had transpired.
You were a friend who liked to talk
I couldn't help but long for more,
And when you said you had to leave
Those shadows crept back to the fore.

And now I sit and gaze upon
The swaying trees, the morning sun.
My ageing eyes weep constantly
For you, and what I have become.
I loved you but you broke my heart
Just as before my love was spurned.
The knife long hidden, salvaged as
The shadows of the past returned.

Just sitting gazing endlessly
In dallied dreams of yesteryear.
No friends or family ever come
To see the woman that they fear.
I didn't mean to hurt them but
Was so consumed with jealousy,
And for my sins, the pain I caused
Those shadows haunt me endlessly.
