You Didn't Know (I Was the One)

Him:
All those years that passed by;
all those tears that I cried,
traveling a lonely road less traveled.
Now, you're back from my dreams,
never knowing it seems--

Chorus--Him
You didn't know,
I was the one.
No, you didn't know,
I was the one.

Her:
Long ago, (sing before the beat)
I steeled my heart
from the love that I lost.
living though it didn't matter.
From the blue you returned
and it's time that you learn--

Chorus--Her
You didn't know,
I was the one.
Baby, you didn't know,
I was the one.

BRIDGE--Together:
Are you here now with me;
is this real can it be?
I've read tales in children's books:
pebbles tossed into brooks,
wishes made-- fairy tales,
paper boats-- feather sales ...

BRIDGE--Him
But you're here in my arms;
you're the one, and I know.

BRIDGE--Her
Though I once was a fool
that was then, this is now.

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK:
Cello, Baritone Sax

Chorus--Together
For you didn't know, I was the one.
Oh baby, you didn't know,
I was the one.
You, didn't know ... I was the one.
