Hearts Disintegrate

by dragonpoet

Our hearts
Once a conflagration
Of passion
Are now a dying ember
In a pile of ash.

What was once
A safe haven
Is now a war zone
That needs an
Ambassador
To allow a few
Civil words.

My mind
Meanders
Through a dusty
Attic of memories,
Remembering laughing
Loquaciousness
and emotions
Expressed freely
And honestly

Now all around us
Is just tensely sad silence

How and when
Did we explode?
Or did we implode?
Does it matter?
What were once
Souls entwined
Are now two strangers
Looking for hope of
A better future
Apart.
