Entry for Dragons contest

Welsh Dragon

by alvina224224

Welsh Dragons are a most well known symbol,
only one of its colour and kind
It stands on three legs, with its fourth raised and clawed,
its forked tail curving behind

In its mouth pointed teeth guides pointed tongue
that defies and threatens forever
Any creature or man that dares to lay plans
to attack Cymru in its finest endeavours

Gwlad! Gwlad! A cry the proud dragon utters
A cry taken up by millions of Welshmen
In a country grown on black coal treasure
and their women join in the anthem

The body of Wales, green valleys and mountains
With views that are no less than stunning
as green as the ground the Welsh dragon stands on
In singular voice, Welsh choirs will rejoice
The flag that keeps Welsh men and girls humming

Be it on mountains or on a rugby field,
in government, or for a great cause,
The Welsh Dragon will fly, stand proud to the sky
Defiance blasts out from its jaws
In the hillsides and the vales,
the welcome that Wales always offers
When you come back again to Wales
