First day of elementary school,
some moms are apprehensive, hand-hold their children, assure their backpacks are firmly strapped to their little backs.

Teachers stand with welcoming smiles; the new school year about to begin.
Moms head to Starbucks for morning coffee and talk.

However, a different scene at the high school.
Students zip into parking lots,
meet friends in the commons area,
girls hug and boys soft shoulder punch.

After school on the football field,
Coach yells, "Guys let's hustle,
hit hard and run the plays."
Players grunt, linemen rush,
Running backs slash, helmets crash.

In the stands, bandmaster urges,
music surges, band rehearses.
On the side line, cheerleaders
chant, wave pom-poms, and dance.
All in preparation for the excitement of
Friday night lights.
