I can't walk in your shoes, you are on a different journey

This is My Life

by moongirlwriter

Life is good, I've always said. I can look no further than my own front door and see another person's journey that seems more difficult than my own. No, I'll walk in my own shoes for this journey.

Remembering my Black Patent Mary Jane shoes when I was only four years old, princess shoes for sure and I played the roll well. I could never just walk in my shoes, Mary Jane patent shoes with an ankle strap were made for dancing, tap dancing to be exact. Those shoes put a beat in my step, a smile on my face and total happiness in my heart.

Turning thirteen was magical for me because that meant heels! High heeled shoes. My first grown up shoes were only 1½" high but it wasn't long before I graduated to 3" heels then flew right to the top with six inch stilettos. Confidence and style took me and my button 'n bow shoes to work M-F, to church on Sunday mornings, shopping at the Mall and to the theatre at night until those shoes walked me right into the arms of my true love.

Married life sends trendy styles a-packing and takes a backseat to "old" is comfortable. It also changes the priority of being stylish to growing feet. . .three sets of growing feet in our family. Growing, growing, growing then they were grown.

Middle age, brings forth a not so youthful body that calls for tennis shoes. Good looking tennis shoes of course, for exercising. With a need to feel stylish again, my tennis shoes had to be the most stylish money could buy. After all, tennis with the pros, action packed work-outs that spelled serious about fitness, racket ball competitions and hiking. They all started with great looking shoes.

Somehow shoes are not so important today but the journey still is and comfort is the name of the game. My shoes now are perfect for walking and learning about our world. So many different looking shoes around the world, all on different journeys. Some similar to mine, others quite different. It has been a good life and as my journey continues, I still prefer walking in my own shoes, enjoying my own life with it's ups and downs. . .this is my journey.
