Tranquility by the Sea

by RodG

A leaden sky has smothered sea
and made the sun a golden ghost,
while surging waves thrash rocks and beach
this early morning on the coast.

Three screaming gulls with wings spread wide
spin in the sharp-toothed wind off shore.
They'll rise to chase the wisps of fog,
then dip to skim the surf once more.

On craggy point a lighthouse looms.
Its sweeping beams of silver light
slash through the shroud of drifting mist,
revealing boulders masked at night.

Though drama lurks this darkened day,
I find true peace in what is there,
those noisy birds, the whipped-up sea,
all nature's gifts He lets me share.
