talking someone out of suicide

The Call

by Nikki-Nicole

Hi. It's me.

How are you?

What's wrong?

Well, do you want to talk about it?

I'm here for you if you need me.

I won't. Because I won't be here.

What do you mean?

I'm really going to do it this time.

You're going to do what?

I'm going to end it all tonight.

What? End what? What are you saying?

I have a bottle of pain killers and a glass of wine. I'm going to give myself one last toast and take them.

No, you're not!

It's too late for that.

You can't kill yourself!

Why not?

We're best friends! I could never make it without you.

I know. That's why I called. But you don't need me.

Yes, I do! Please! Listen to me!

You've been my best friend for a long time. You've always helped me get through tough situations.

And I'll help you now.

No. Not this time.

I can. Just tell me what's wrong.

I'm just tired-- tired of living.

You don't ever need to be tired of living. Pray!

Pray with me.

Dear God, please touch my friend and let her know that You are all she needs. Help her and guide her. What ever the situation is- deliver her. I ask these things in thy Son Jesus' name. Amen.

Do you feel better?

A little.

Are you still going to go through with it?

No. Not this time.

Thank God.

Just so you know--If I were going to kill myself, I certainly wouldn't call anyone. I'd just do it.

Well, I'm glad you called me.

You're my best friend.

And you're mine.
