Ode to I.V. Lidocaine

by Barb Hensongispsaca

Oh, my dearest, closest friend.
You hold such intoxication.
I so enjoy our secret meetings
in a room made just for us.
Just a small pain I endure
to be able to receive your peace,
freedom from pain
for just a little while,
as your treatment flows into
my veins,
releasing my body from the harsh reality
of age and disease
granting me a reprieve,
allowing me to live as a child
for a short time.
You, with your loving flow,
permit me to dance and run
and feel alive with life,
instead of having the embarrassment
of tears flowing freely.
I feel you work your wonders.
Let me float on clouds of dreams
as you take me to another place
where I can stand tall and proud,
and say to the world..."I got this!".
